Aixeena Slideshow Module for Joomla! 5 and 6

Another compatibility conversion for Joomla! 5 and 6 of a module from the former Aixeena project – a simple yet effective image slideshow module.

The Joomla! 3 version is available either directly from the Spanish section of the Top Position website or from the Joomla! Extensions Directory website. The updated version for Joomla! 5 and 6 is available, for now, only from here :)

Important:
If there is an old version of the Aixeena Slideshow module that you want to reinstall as part of a Joomla upgrade from version 3 to 5 or later, then the old module must be uninstalled before instaling the new version, otherwise duplication issues may occur in the database (and some garbage might still remain) due to media naming unification changes made during code update. If that might be the case, you must somehow remember the old settings, as these will be lost during uninstall process !

  2. Things worth mentioning

(i) The module file

The Aixeena Slides module consist of a single .zip archive file. Depending on the chosen installation method, you either need to download the file or simply copy and paste its URL.

Method 1 (recommended): download the file on your PC

In a sense, this is a safe method from the user’s perspective, because once the file has been downloaded, there is no more dependency on this originating site – like, for example, in case my web server happens to go offline for whatever reason.

Then:

  • on the J5 or J6 admin page, go to Install Extensions, the Upload Package File tab, then drag and drop there the .zip file just downloaded
  • wait for the success-like message to show up (it shouldn’t take long to complete)

or

Method 2 (most convenient): use only an install URL

No need to download anything, just enter the address into the proper field. The module will be installed automatically from my web server by the Joomla! system.

Steps:

  • on the J5 or J6 admin page, go to Install Extensions, the Install from URL tab, then copy and paste there this address:
    https://www.secarica.ro/dev/joomla/aixeena/mod_aixeenaslideshow_5.0.0.zip
  • Note: this address (and, thus, the target file) is in fact the same as the link address from method 1 above, so it is safe to copy that link instead.
  • click the Check & Install button
  • wait for the success-like message to show up (it shouldn’t take long to complete)

The software is published under the GPLv2 license.
Includes Vegas Background Slideshow jQuery/Zepto library version 2.6.0 published under the MIT license.

(ii) Things worth mentioning

Just like with the Aixeena Ticker module on my other page in the Focused on Joomla! category, there are a few things that either work incompletely or don't work at all.

I am aware of these issues:

  • the styling of Themes 1, 4 and 5 are quite the same (and quite questionable in purpose), with Theme 4 and 5 being exactly the same; if really needed or just for fun, you have to play with the properties and values of the .vegaselementtext element of the respective theme number in the aixeenaslideshow.css file, which after module install is located in the the /media/mod_aixeenaslideshow/ server path
  • there is again an option related to an (action) button that apparently does not exist, supposedly because the code corresponds either to an idea that was started but never completed, or to another extension that once was somehow related or at least intended to be related
The Toggle Inline Help buton

There is no detailed user manual or instructions available. If you are not familiar with it, or are unsure about some configuration options, keep in mind that most options have associated brief help descriptions, which are hidden by default by the Joomla interface. To reveal them, click the “Toggle Inline Help” button in the upper right corner on the module settings page.

Otherwise, I will limit myself to copy/paste the original features list from the Top Position website:

  • Display/hide timer bar
  • Display/hide the overlay (10 diferent patterns)
  • Choose between fixed height / full visible height / 80% full visible height
  • Automatic width to the module container
  • Full background mode (body)
  • Full link option for the entire module (note: all the other links (logo and button) must be disabled)
  • 12 CSS3 slide transitions with random option
  • 8 CSS3 slide animations with random option
  • Shuffled array of slides option
  • Delay beetween slides in milliseconds
  • Set the transition duration in milliseconds
  • Up to 10 9 background images
  • Note: misleading description or incomplete code; actually the code can be expanded to 10 or more background images, if really needed
  • Up to 3 background videos
  • Front HTML Box options:
    • Logo image
    • Logo link
    • H1 text and H2 text (principal and secondary phrase)
    • Up to 6 precharged Google Fonts
    • Google Font Effects (beta)
    • Action button: text, link, target and design
    • Action button pulse/bounce animations
    • Action button bottom position option
    • Custom HTML code
  • 5 Themes
  • Custom CSS option
